Four Reasons Why The Skin Around Our Eyes Ages and How To Prevent It

Five Reasons Why The Skin Around Our Eyes Ages and How To Prevent It

The area around the eyes is often the first to show visible signs of aging, and fine lines, wrinkles and loss of skin elasticity can detract from an otherwise youthful appearance. According to Dr. Jessica Weiser, New York-based dermatologist https://www.weiserskin.com, “One main reason the eye area is prone to premature aging is because this skin is significantly thinner than skin elsewhere on the face and body” - and several other factors contribute to age-related changes around the eyes and skin rejuvenation as well.

The Age-Reversing Defensins Story

The Age-Reversing Defensins Story

With so many skincare ingredients available, it can be difficult to keep them straight. From peptides to stem cells and growth factors, many products with these ingredients claim to be the fountain of youth, which is why we turned to DefenAge clinical researcher Dr. Amy Forman Taub, Medical Director of Advanced Dermatology and Skinfo Specialty Skincare Boutique www.skinfo.com, to explain these pieces of the skincare puzzle - and the benefits they have for restoring the skin to a more youthful state.

I’ve seen countless skincare innovations over the course of my more than 30-year career, and thanks to modern science and copious amounts of research we have access to more skin-rejuvenating options than ever. But with that said, skincare and skin rejuvenation is still a science, and much of what researchers and scientists know can be difficult to translate to consumers. As with just about anything else, knowledge is power, and understanding your anti-aging skincare choices is key to getting the optimal improvement for your unique skin concerns and needs.

Just Say “No” to Mineral Oil | DefenAge® New Skin

Just Say “No” to Mineral Oil

Mineral oil has been used as an ingredient in skincare for more than a century, and its cosmetic use dates back to ancient Roman times. One of the most commonly used occlusive ingredients used to prevent water from evaporating from the skin and alleviate dryness, this clear, colorless liquid may sound like a skin savior but it’s actually far from it. Why? Mineral oil is a byproduct of the process that converts petroleum to gasoline.

The impact mineral oil production has on the environment is just one issue associated with this ingredient, yet research has identified a larger concern that hits closer to home. Research from the 1980s showed that mineral oil may promote the development of skin cancer. Although this study found a connection in cases of prolonged exposure to industrial grade mineral oil (while the mineral oil in cosmetics and skincare products is USP or BP grade, which means it’s highly purified and refined), this should be enough to make anyone want to steer clear.

How to Wash Your Face Like a Dermatologist

How to Wash Your Face Like a Dermatologist

The act of cleansing your skin may seem rather simple, but as one of the most important skincare steps there are several factors to consider. All cleansers are not created equal, and the wrong formula or ingredients can actually do more harm than good. According to board-certified dermatologist Dr. Natalie Curcio of Curcio Dermatology in Nashville, Tennessee, “Washing your face twice daily is incredibly important for anti-aging and your overall health - and the ideal cleanser should leave the skin feeling clean, hydrated and soft.”
