Beta Hydroxy Acid (Bha)

Salicylic (Beta-Hydroxy Acid or BHA) works to control excess oil production, and reduces the stickiness of oil that clogs pores and contributes to breakouts. A true acne-fighting multi-tasker, salicylic also gently exfoliates the skin's surface. These chemical exfoliants can smooth fine lines, even pigmentation, and penetrate deeply into pores, dissolving sticky plugs of sebum and dead skin. One of the most common BHAs, salicylic acid, is found in many acne washes, creams, and peels. Like AHAs, BHAs exfoliate dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, according to Paula’s Choice Skincare. But unlike AHAs, BHAs are oil-soluble, meaning they can penetrate deeper into pores and exfoliate the dead skin built up inside, which reduces the appearance of pores and blackheads. Salicylic acid is the most common BHA.
